BEGINNINGS

JACK ENYART was educated at Los Angeles City College, California Institute of the Arts, and Art Center College of Design. The latter awarded him an Honorary Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

He began his career in the early 70s by setting up a design studio called ENYARTISTS and drawing cartoon features for Playgirl, True, Penthouse and other well-known magazines.

COMICS

This led Enyart to writing comic books, and throughout the 70s he scripted scores of stories for the classic Disney, Warners, and Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters.

While working in animation in the 80s he kept up his comic work, notably the "Roger Rabbit " books for Disney, and art directed "Looney Tunes" publicity and merchandising for famed director Chuck Jones.

In the 90s Enyart contracted to write a new line of comic books starring the classic Warner characters, as well as the new "Tiny Toons." These books, published internationally, made him the foremost and most prolific author of "Looney Tunes" comics in history.

At that time Disney also employed Enyart for a new series of comic magazines. He wrote stories for "Hercules," "Lion King," "Toy Story," "Aladdin," "101 Dalmatians" and many more. Concerned about the lack of comics for girls, Enyart persuaded Marvel Comics to option the rights to "Clueless" and scripted that as well.

ANIMATION

In the late 70s, because of his reputation in comics, the Warner Animation Department sought out Enyart as writer and editor for their "Looney Tunes" TV specials starring Bugs, Daffy, Porky and the rest of the gang. Enyart worked closely with cartoon legends Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng and Mel Blanc on these specials.

Enyart then moved to Ruby-Spears Productions, where he developed, wrote and/or story edited several popular TV network cartoon series. Foremost of these was "Alvin and the Chipmunks," for which he did all of the above, as well as voiceover work.

In the 80s Enyart wrote for nearly every major animation studio in Hollywood, earning him the nickname MAN ABOUT TOON. Among these studios were Disney, Warners, Filmation, Marvel, Hanna-Barbera, Fox, DIC and Sunbow. He developed Disney's first original TV cartoon "Duck Tales," as well as Fox's "Peter Pan" and numerous other projects.

In the 90s Enyart was brought to Marvel Productions to develop, write, and supervise the cult hit "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" cartoon series. Later in the decade he created an adult series, “Spy Lounge,” which was optioned by Universal Cartoons.

Enyart’s most recent scripting credits are the forthcoming "Wendell, Son of Santa Claus," the first video feature animation release from Larry Houston Productions; the TV special “Cisco Crib” for Bobtoons Inc.; and the pilot “Rip Smart” for Bumatai-Ashby Productions. He is also advising on preproduction of two CGI features, “Tinja Ji” and “Saladin,” by Fat Lizard/POV productions in Malaysia.

CONSULTOONTING

By the 90s Enyart's expertise had made him in demand as an animation CONSULTOONT. This function he performed on the MGM TV series "Pink Panther" as well as for Hanna-Barbera’s "Dumb and Dumber" and "Johnny Bravo" cartoon series.

Dozens of private clients--producers, directors, animators, artists, writers and students---have since hired Enyart for in-person career consulting sessions or written reports.

He similarly now advises animation studios across the country and around the world, among them Butamai/Ashby Productions (Honolulu HA) Dagnabit! and DoubleRaven Studios (Atlanta GA), Dragonlord Enterprises (Plano TX) Fat Lizard/POV Productions (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Origin IPM (London UK), Zoonauts & Co. (New York NY), and Goldrim Media (New South Wales AU).

Enyart’s podcast of career advice for artists, YOUR ART DREAM, summarizes all his knowledge from years as a cartooning professional and consultoont. A sequel, YOUR ART KID, will offer guidance to parents of artistically talented children.

EDUCATION

In the last decade, Enyart has done scores of lecture and seminar appearances about cartooning. His slide-and-video lectures WHAT’S SO FUNNY??! and LET’S TALK TOONS have been performed for California State University Chico, Glendale College (AZ) Santa Monica College (CA) the Los Angeles, San Marino, and Pasadena Library systems, and others.

He has also taught on a regular basis: STORY DEVELOPMENT FOR ANIMATION at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects; WRITING SKILLS at Adcon Technical Institute; CRASH COURSE IN CARTOONS at the Learning Annex; and most recently LIVE FIGURE DRAWING at the Academy of Couture Art, all in Los Angeles.

Enyart has served on committees for the Autry Museum and L.A. County Museum of Art. For the latter, he helped organize the gala celebration of the Walt Disney/Salvador Dali animated short “Destino.” He is also in demand as a judge and panelist for such events as the CSU Media Arts Festival, Otis School Animation Conference, SAGE (Students for Advancement of Global Entrepeneurship) and the Annie Awards.

Enyart’s animation writing is in the permanent collection of the Writers Guild Library Foundation. For its 15th Anniversary Issue, Animation Magazine honored Jack Enyart as one of the Top Animation Writers of recent years.
